Doloros Young Family Foundation
Sees Results

Doloros Young and her family recently visited the magnificent mansion. They were here to view the first project benefiting from the newly created Doloros Young Family Endowment. The new Hauberg endowment funded the restoration of the grand staircase stenciling and painting.

The next time you’re visiting the mansion be sure to take a look at the staircase. It took 7 weeks of meticulous measuring, taping and painting to artfully recreate the elaborate beautiful artwork. The craftsmanship is absolute perfection and thanks to the endowment, the imposing staircase truly makes a grand and beautiful impression.

If you, or your family, would like information on endowments, or designated donations, please contact us at 309-373-5080.

The Director’s Desk

Please join me in welcoming Angie Stark to the Friends of Hauberg Civic Center staff. Angie will be putting her nonprofit experience to work, assisting us with fundraising and membership. With a great eye for landscape and the estate with her camera. We’re so happy to have you at the Hauberg Angie.

Volunteerism created the Friends of Hauberg and volunteers contribute to the maintenance and restoration of the estate on a daily basis. In fact, in just 6 years, our volunteers have worked 23,751 hours at a value of $619,713. Now that’s what we call community involvement! The Hauberg wouldn’t be where it is today without these amazing individuals. Thank you.

Around the Gardens

Flowers, Flowers and more Flowers! It’s the most beautiful time of the year at the Hauberg Estate. Dozens of varieties of flowers, trees and foliage are putting on a show around the gardens. The Jens Jensen landscape architecture restoration continues at the Hauberg. Additional pond restoration, the Council Ring and an unearthed walkway through the meadow are underway now.

Our historic landscape is once again in the American Horticulture Society’s Reciprocal Admission Program for 2022. The program offers free admission to participating gardens and botanical centers throughout the country.

It’s a great time to come over and explore the ponds and gardens. Self-guided and docent lead tours are available. “Gardening with Michele” classes allow you to get your hands dirty as you learn. Or just relax and play at Hauberg Field. As we like to say, “Our Community learns, gardens, plays, tours, hikes and grows at the Hauberg Estate.”

Reimagining the Carriage House

The Carriage House phase of the Capital Campaign is in full-swing. Here’s a sneak peek at the restoration that’s been completed so far. The 1400 square foot Auto House offers event and program rental space. It’s been cleaned, painted, door repairs, new thresholds, new pea gravel driveway, entry doors repaired and painted and beautiful chandelier lighting. The 900 square foot Carriage House will have an original Hauberg carriage feature, an ADA bathroom and beautiful bar constructed with 100-year-old reclaimed barn wood. The extraordinary, original carriage house lights have been restored and are a must-see architectural feature. The Stable area is suitable for a Gift Shop. And, access is convenient with a 120+ vehicle parking lot. Everything underway on the first floor of the Carriage House supports sustainability of the Hauberg Estate. It’s a great venue for “Our Community to Celebrate at the Hauberg.”

An Historical Perspective
Architectural and Carriage House Tour This Fall

Join your guide for an evening outdoor tour of the estate. We will talk about the architects and the building process. We will talk about the children who used these yards as their playground. And we will have an opportunity to visit the Carriage House. The tour will be offered on Thursday evenings at 6pm in September and October weather permitting. A donation of $10.00 per adult will be accepted at the door. Children and students are free. Please call (309) 373-508 between 9am and 4pm if you plan to attend

The “Our Community” Capital Campaign, started in June, has already raised $106,000 (one-third of the campaign goal) in cash donations and pledges.

FOHCC’s vision for the future is to build long-term sustainability through a 3-phased restoration plan. Phases I and II include: main floor rental for private events, space for educational programming, accommodation for larger attendance at Hauberg public events and activities, a gift shop and a large second story Airbnb. In Phase III, the Terraced Garden offers unique possibilities with the restoration and re-imagining of the historic garden for educational and leisure enjoyment. The campaign is expected to conclude December 2024.

The Friends of Hauberg Civic Center Foundation is a (501)(c)(3) organized for charitable and educational purposes to oversee the preservation and sustainability of the Hauberg Estate, Mansion and Gardens. We invite you to join us in this rewarding Capital Campaign to make significant steps in the sustainability of the Hauberg Estate.
