PRESERVING THE PONDS

Restoring The Beauty of Years Gone By

Over 100 years ago, famous landscape architect Jens Jensen designed the landscape at the Hauberg Estate in Rock Island, Illinois. The original design included 5 ponds on the 10-acre property, which unfortunately, became overgrown. The Friends of Hauberg in partnership with the Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Rock Island Rain Garden Program are please to announce the restoration of the ponds is currently underway and moving quickly.

The restoration is important to the community as it will help control storm water flowing into the Broadway district and provide a wide variety of native plants for wildlife, pollinators and aid with erosion control.

It’s historically relevant to note, Jens Jensen designed 350 estates throughout the United States. There are only 35 existing Jensen landscape designs left today. According to Todd Linscott, chairman of the Friends of Hauberg, “We are very fortunate to have such a beautiful Jensen original design in our area. Restoring the ponds is a huge step in returning the estate gardens to the Prairie Landscape vision Jensen had for the property.”
